Makeup: Start To Finish

Start to finish makeup application - you can skip steps, but put it on in this order for the best look.

1. Foundation
2. Concealer
3. Eye shadow
4. Eyeliner
5. Mascara
6. Blush
7. Powder
8. Lipstick

LIPS

Let’s talk about lip pencil. Lip pencils help keep your lipstick in place and help it last longer. In choosing a lip pencil, draw a line on your hand and rub it lightly. If it smears it’s too greasy. If it pulls or flakes your skin, it’s too dry. It is not worth it to buy expensive lip pencils. All you need is the pencil and a sharpener. Make sure you keep the pencil sharpened so that you achieve maximum definition and accuracy.

You can use your lip pencil to create different illusions with your lips. Here are some ideas:

FOR BIGGER LIPS:
Use the pencil to draw the lips slightly wider on the top and bottom. Layer on lipstick. You can also dab some concealer in the middle of your lips on top of the lipstick.

FOR SMALLER LIPS:
Draw inside the lip line, then layer on lipstick. Dab a slightly darker shade of lipstick in the middle of your lips on top of your lipstick. Blend it in.

FOR STRONGER LIPS:
Outline your lips with the same color pencil as your lips. This will give your lips more polish, shape, and definition.

FOR SOFTER LIPS:
Use a light-shade pencil to outline the lips and fill them in with the same color gloss.

FOR POUTIER LIPS:
Outline and color in your lips with pencil. Dab on some gloss or shimmer in the middle of your lower lip.

FOR PLUMPER LIPS:
Apply the pencil. Apply the lipstick. Re-line the lip with the pencil.

Lip pencils can also be used to color the entire lip and generally, the color will last longer.

EYES

Eye makeup should emphasize the shape and color of your eyes. It can create illusion better than any other cosmetic.

The eye area tends to be naturally dry so use an eye cream daily. You’ll be happy you did 10-20 years from now.

Eye cream also helps keep your eye shadow color on longer. Without cream the eye shadow may look dry and make you look tired and older.

Too much eye color will detract from your eyes. Decide before applying eye makeup what effect you are trying to achieve.

Neutral colors are easy to work with because they blend well with one another and complement the skin.

Neutral colors may be subtle undertones of the skin and soft colors found in the skin: gold, olive, pale purple, blue, gray, brown, vanilla, mauve and beige.

Apply color lightly. Put darker colors close to the lashes and brighter colors away from the lashes. This will give a soft look.

TO MAKE YOUR EYES LOOK:

CLOSER TOGETHER – Stroke a light or medium neutral shade of eye shadow on the inner corner of your eyelids.

FARTHER APART – Take a matte shadow in a darker shade and stroke it outward and slightly upward, on the outer corners of the top and bottom lids.

BIGGER – Light tones stand out, so you want to bring light to your eyes. Stroke a neutral shade in a lighter shade in the crease of your lid above your iris. If you want color, stroke the neutral on first and layer the color on top. OR stroke a light color on the lids with a darker color in the crease and along the upper and lower lash lines.

ROUNDER – Put eye shadow all around the edges of the upper and lower lids.
