Graduation Party Ideas
Choose a format:
Decide beforehand if it will be an Open House format, dinner/lunch with a beginning and end, a buffet, or whatever.
Choose a theme:
• School colors • Something the student was involved in at school • College major • Graduation diplomas, hats, robes, tassels • Pictures of the student and his/her classmates; put a head shot of the graduate on a tongue depressor and give them to the attendees or put them in a flowering plant or a flower pot with dirt in it. Use it as a centerpiece. • Something the student is interested in (whether it be now or in the future) • A star theme because your student is the star for the day • Do an evening party with torches, wave sounds, or instrumental music. Serve a nice meal or just have finger foods passed.
Things to do at a graduation party:
• Play upbeat, fun music &/or music that goes with your theme. • Give everyone a white t-shirt and have each person sign it; or give them a journal to write notes to one another. • Divide up into teams and make a rhyme declaring the places the graduate will go. Base it on the Dr. Seuss book, Oh, The Places You’ll Go. • Roast the graduate – Let people tell stories about the graduate, mostly funny and never vulgar.
Food:
• Prepare food the graduate likes. • Have food that corresponds with your theme. • Have fun finger foods.
Be creative: Try to make it different from what most graduation parties have.
