Taste of Health
By Theresa Lashley
• What are you looking for, what are your goals?
• How can I help you to achieve these goals?
• What is your motivation? .... why do you want to lose the weight?
How Committed Are You? What Are You Willing To Do?
• Need to change the way we think
• Need to think about the process differently
• If indeed we are doing it for 'health' reasons we will continue even if/when we don't see results
The 'What If' Scenario
What if someone told you to get all of your affairs in order, that you only had six months to live due to a very aggressive disease, as they are talking you of course are devastated thinking about all the family and friends you want to spend time with all the places you want to visit...asking questions like did I love my kids enough, did I spend enough time with them. Just as the person is finishing up you hear them say.....BUT, it's the loudest and longest 'but' you have ever heard and now they have your attention. "lf you are willing to totally change your lifestyle by eating whatever I tell you to eat and exercising 5 times a week NO MATTER WHAT no matter how you feel, no matter what the weather, no matter ........ do it like your life depends on it..... because it does .... there's a glimmer of hope, you automatically scream out 'I'll do it!' because you have RESOLVED in your own mind that you'll do WHATEVER IT TAKES to extend your life ..... this is the attitude that you MUST embrace if you are going to change your life.
What I Did
• Read the book :: Dr. Abravanel's Body Type Diet And Lifetime Nutrition Plan
• Tweaked the book a little bit
Did not eat after 6:00 p.m. no matter what (if I didn't make it home I just did not eat that night. I ate what the book said (eggs for breakfast EVERY morning) sometimes a grilled turkey burger (no bread) and a broccoli slaw salad w/ toasted sliced almonds. For dinner I ate a bowl of homemade Ratatouille, Veggie Stew, or Soup (made a whole pot to last me the week). I did not eat as much bread or even grains as the book says I can have (I believe it says I can have 1 slice of whole grain toast in the morning and a serving of grains (brown rice or something like that) for lunch or dinner .... as a matter of fact for the first 3 months on this program I DID NOT eat the bread/grains/fruit at all! This was awesome because I stopped having those very real and drug-like cravings!
• Wasn't until I started REALLY paying attention to the amount of calories I burned compared to the amount of calories I took in that I began to see a DRAMATIC weight loss. (My children bought my husband and I heart monitor watches for our anniversary) I KNEW HOW MANY CALORIES I BURNED FOR THE DAY (I kept the watch on all day) AND THEREFORE I APPROXIMATED HOW MANY CALORIES I ATE. A 3600 calorie deficit which equals a 1 pound weight loss! I would average about a pound to a pound and a half a week (THIS IS VERY DO-ABLE AND A VERY HEALTHY WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT!)
IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE THIS DEFICIT, I would work out 2 and a half to 3 hours each day doing about an hour to 1 and half hours of cardio on my own and then taking a class for an hour - EXTREME I ADMIT, BUT I NEEDED TO BE EXTREME...
What Is Important To Realize
• Most people realize that foods laden with fat, sugar, and salt are not good for us, but in realizing that they continue to eat these foods as if THEY HAVE NO CONTROL OVER WHAT THEY PUT INTO THEIR MOUTHS ...... One of the most important things for me was to REGAIN control. Once I got my body in some sort of 'balance' the cravings subsided and I was able to make better choices about what I put into my mouth ..... .for the first time I felt like an intelligent person making a decision about what was the best choice to 'fuel
this body' as oppose to a crack addict not caring about the packaging, the location, the quality, just determined to get that next 'fix' ........ God made us better than that... .. it's not funny, this is no game .... people are dying DAILY from obesity related illnesses ......WE HAVE CONTROL!
• We need to set goals for ourselves
MEDITATE! MEDITATE! MEDITATE!
THESE ARE SOME SCRIPTURES THAT HAVE REALLY HELPED ME!
I Cor. 9:27
No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize….NIV
I Cor. 9:27
I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified…NLT
ICor. 9:27
But I give blows to my body, and keep it under control, for fear that, after having given the good news to others, I myself might not have God’s approval….Bible in Basic English
Romans 12:2
Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect…NLT
Daniel 1:8-16
but Daniel was determined not to defile himself by eating the food and wine given to them by the king. He asked the chief of staff for permission not to eat these unacceptable foods….At the end of the ten days, Daniel and his three friends looked healthier and better nourished than the young men who had been eating the food assigned by the king. So after that, the attendant fed them only vegetables instead of the food and wine provided for the others.
Gal. 5:22-23
But the Holy Sprit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and SELF-CONTROL. There is no law against these things!...NLT
I Peter 1:13-16
So think clearly and exercise self-control. Look forward to the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.”…NLT
I Cor. 10:13
The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithrul. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure….NLT
