Recently I have been looking at some articles about happiness. They give practical ideas of how people can make their lives happier. I think the ideas are good, but I know they are not lasting. Often we expect people, things, or a change in our circumstances to make us happy. They only bring short-term happiness. On the other hand, God’s Word tells us how we can be happy and it is a happiness that does not fade.


Today I want to share some scriptures that, if you apply to your life, will bring true happiness. I got happy reminding myself of these things! Hope you do too.



WHEN WE ARE RESPECTFUL, WE WILL BE HAPPY.

Happy is the man who is always reverent, But he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity.
Prov. 28:14 



WHEN WE ARE DISCIPLINED BY THE LORD, WE WILL BE HAPPY.

Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects; Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty.
Job 5:17 

Happy are those whom you discipline, LORD, and those whom you teach from your law.
Psa. 94:12



WHEN WE ENJOY THE FRUIT OF OUR LABOR, WE ARE HAPPY.

You will enjoy the fruit of your labor. How happy you will be! How rich your life!
Psa. 128:2  



WHEN OUR HOPE IS IN THE LORD, WE ARE HAPPY.

Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, Whose hope is in the LORD his God,
Psa. 146:5 



WE ARE HAPPY WHEN WE FIND WISDOM AND GAIN UNDERSTANDING.

Happy is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding;
Prov. 3:13 



WE ARE HAPPY WHEN WE EMBRACE AND HOLD ONTO WISDOM.

Wisdom is a tree of life to those who embrace her; happy are those who hold her tightly.
Prov. 3:18



WHEN WE HAVE MERCY ON/HELP THE POOR, WE ARE HAPPY.

He who despises his neighbor sins;  But he who has mercy on the poor, happy is he.
Prov. 14:21 



WHEN WE TRUST IN THE LORD, WE ARE HAPPY.

He who heeds the word wisely will find good,  And whoever trusts in the LORD, happy is he.
Prov. 16:20 

O LORD Almighty, happy are those who trust in you.
Psa. 84:12  

Those who listen to instruction will prosper; those who trust the LORD will be happy.
Prov. 16:20



WHEN WE OBEYS GOD’S WORD, WE ARE HAPPY.

Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; But happy is he who keeps the law.
Prov. 29:18 

Praise the LORD! Happy are those who fear the LORD. Yes, happy are those who delight in doing what he commands.
Psa. 112:1

Happy are those who obey his decrees and search for him with all their hearts.
Psa. 119:2 

This is my happy way of life: obeying your commandments.
Psa. 119:56  

When people do not accept divine guidance, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is happy.
Prov. 29:18

I am happy to do your will, O my God. Your teachings are deep within me.
Psa. 40:8  



WE ARE HAPPY WHEN WE DO NOT CONDEMN OURSELVES.

Do you have faith? Have it to yourself before God. Happy is he who does not condemn himself in what he approves.
Rom. 14:22



WE ARE HAPPY WHEN WE WORSHIP GOD.

Happy are those who hear the joyful call to worship, for they will walk in the light of your presence, LORD.
Psa. 89:15  



WHEN WE DO WHAT IS RIGHT AND JUST, WE ARE HAPPY.

Happy are those who deal justly with others and always do what is right.
Psa. 106:3  



WE ARE HAPPY WHEN WE FEAR/REVERENCE THE LORD.

Praise the LORD! Happy are those who fear the LORD. Yes, happy are those who delight in doing what he commands.
Psa. 112:1

How happy are those who fear the LORD all who follow his ways!
Psa. 128:1



WHEN WE WALK IN INTEGRITY, WE ARE HAPPY.

Happy are people of integrity, who follow the law of the LORD.
Psa. 119:1



WE ARE HAPPY WHEN WE SEARCH FOR GOD WITH ALL OF OUR HEARTS.

Happy are those who obey his decrees and search for him with all their hearts.
Psa. 119:2  



WE ARE HAPPY WHEN GOD IS OUR LORD.

Yes, happy are those who have it like this! Happy indeed are those whose God is the LORD.
Psa. 144:15  



WHEN WE FOLLOW WISDOM’S WAYS WE ARE HAPPY.

And so, my children, listen to me, for happy are all who follow my ways.
Prov. 8:32



WHEN WE LISTEN, WATCH AND WAIT FOR WISDOM, WE ARE HAPPY.

Happy are those who listen to me, watching for me daily at my gates, waiting for me outside my home!
Prov. 8:34



WHEN OTHERS ARE HAPPY, WE ARE HAPPY.

When others are happy, be happy with them. If they are sad, share their sorrow
Rom. 12:15



God blesses you when you are mocked and persecuted and lied about because you are my followers.
Be happy about it! Be very glad! For a great reward awaits you in heaven. And remember, the ancient prophets were persecuted, too.
Matt. 5:11-12




Finally, all of you should be of one mind, full of sympathy toward each other, loving one another with tender hearts and humble minds. Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate when people say unkind things about you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God wants you to do, and he will bless you for it.  For the Scriptures say, “If you want a happy life and good days, keep your tongue from speaking evil, and keep your lips from telling lies. Turn away from evil and do good. Work hard at living in peace with others. The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers. But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil.
1 Pet. 3:8-12



GOD’S TEACHINGS/COMMANDS MAKE US HAPPY.

Your laws make me happy. I never forget your word.
Psa. 119:16  

Indeed, your written instructions make me happy. They are my best friends.
Psa. 119:24  

Lead me on the path of your commandments, because I am happy with them.
Psa. 119:35  

Trouble and hardship have found me, but your commandments ‹still› make me happy.
Psa. 119:143  

Your commandments, which I love, make me happy.
Psa. 119:47  

Their hearts are cold and insensitive, ‹yet› I am happy with your teachings.
Psa. 119:70  

I have longed for you to save me, O Lord, and your teachings make me happy.
Psa. 119:174  

Let your compassion reach me so that I may live, because your teachings make me happy.

If your teachings had not made me happy, then I would have died in my misery.

WE ARE HAPPY BECAUSE OUR NAMES ARE WRITTEN IN HEAVEN.

However, don’t be happy that evil spirits obey you. Be happy that your names are written in heaven.”
Luke 10:20



WE ARE HAPPY BECAUSE GOD NEVER ABANDONS US.
Don’t love money. Be happy with what you have because God has said, “I will never abandon you or leave you.”
Heb. 13:5



WE ARE HAPPY BECAUSE WE HAVE BEEN BORN INTO A NEW LIFE.
Praise the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! God has given us a new birth because of his great mercy. We have been born into a new life that has a confidence which is alive because Jesus Christ has come back to life. We have been born into a new life which has an inheritance that can’t be destroyed or corrupted and can’t fade away. That inheritance is kept in heaven for you, since you are guarded by God’s power through faith for a salvation that is ready to be revealed at the end of time. You are extremely happy about these things, even though you have to suffer different kinds of trouble for a little while now.
1 Pet. 1:3-6



BECAUSE WE BELIEVE IN CHRIST JESUS, WE ARE HAPPY.
Although you have never seen Christ, you love him. You don’t see him now, but you believe in him. You are extremely happy with joy and praise that can hardly be expressed in words
1 Pet. 1:8
