Monthly Meditation:
Spiritual Battles
Since
this month is Halloween I thought we would focus on spiritual battle.
In America they are attempting to make Halloween as big or bigger than
Christmas. Most people do not realize that Halloween is a religious
celebration. It is Satan’s high holy day (see more concerning this in
the Halloween article). Many Christians go along with the seemingly
harmless activities, not understanding what is really taken place around
us. I am not saying we should be super spiritual, but we should
understand and take heed to what it means and take some stands as the
Holy Spirit directs us.
People involved deeply in Satanism
make human & animal sacrifices on Halloween. Throughout the year
they put curses on people unaware. They are involved in spiritual
battle. As Christians, we have to be conscious of the war that is taken
place in the unseen world and the part we play in it.
Here are a few verses that show us what kind of war we are in and how to fight it.
Ephesians 6:11-12 (NLT)
11
Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm
against all strategies and tricks of the Devil. 12 For we are not
fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil
rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers
of darkness who rule this world, and against wicked spirits in the
heavenly realms.
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 (God's Word)
3 Of course we are human, but we don’t fight like humans.
4
The weapons we use in our fight are not made by humans. Rather, they
are powerful weapons from God. With them we destroy people’s defenses,
that is, their arguments
5 and all their intellectual arrogance that
oppose the knowledge of God. We take every thought captive so that it is
obedient to Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:3-4 (NKJV)
2Cor. 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.
2Cor. 10:4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,
Ephesians
6 goes on to exhort us to wear the entire armor of God as we fight
against Satan. The reason we need God’s armor is so we can pray. It is
difficult to pray when we do not have the weapons necessary to fight the
thoughts that come against us while we pray and after we finish
praying. Verses 13-17 explain each piece of the armor, then verse 18
tells us to pray.
Eph. 6:18 Pray at all times and on every
occasion in the power of the Holy Spirit. Stay alert and be persistent
in your prayers for all Christians everywhere.
We will not be in faith concerning our prayers without having on God’s armor.
The spiritual battle cannot be fought not having the proper equipment
to engage in the battle. Soldiers do not go to war without their
equipment. Firefighters do not fight fires lacking the tools to put out
the flames. The list goes on, but you get the idea.
2
Corinthians 10 says we have been given powerful weapons from God to
fight. These weapons help us destroy the onslaught of fiery darts that
come our way. They also enable us to be offensive in our attack against
the enemy. It is important for us to get serious about the fight through
prayer and thinking the way God thinks. As we meditate on His Word it
enables us to oppose our enemy in prayer. When we pray the Holy Spirit
directs us concerning what to meditate on. The two go hand in hand.
Step
out and fight the good fight. The more you do the stronger you will be
when an attack comes your way and you will be able to wage a good battle
for others.
