Do Hard Things!
YMAD (Youth Making A Difference), the youth ministry at FHC in Tinley Park, are committed to being pro-active in their faith and focusing on making a real impact to better people’s lives. In November, 100 students separated into five teams, and launched “Do Hard Things”. This project challenged the young people to help either a local charity or family in the community.
The teens chose and supported the following charity/organizations:
Together We Cope Raised and donated $6,000; Donated 3,500 lbs. of Food and 500 Clothing Items.
PASS Pregnancy Center Raised and donated over $500. Set up a display that reached approximately 1.8 million people to raise awareness about the harm of abortion. Also, organized and participated in a “Walk for Life” to raise money.
YMAD Youth Ministry Raised $700 to renovate the youth area and create an environment that is welcoming and enjoyable for visitors and members.
Mini-Home Makeover Raised $17,000 for the project. Renovated the bedroom of an 11-year-old cancer survivor and her little sister.
SOS Children’s Village
Raised $1,500 for the orphans at the village. Met and interacted with the kids, did a thorough cleaning of one of the homes, and held a lunch party for those in the village. (Mayor Dev Trivedi of Lockport was so impressed with the finances the teens raised that he asked them to make a presentation at the Lockport City Meeting.)
YMAD’s “Do Hard Things” program will be an ongoing community outreach to engage the students in worthwhile projects while making lasting impacts on this generation.
